About Us
A small fleet. A capable crew.
wavecres started at Mae Nam pier and stays close to it — operating a handful of well-maintained yachts in the waters we know best.
Back to HomeOur Story
How wavecres came together
wavecres grew out of a simple observation: most charter experiences on Koh Samui were either too rushed, too large, or too impersonal. Groups of strangers on the same boat, itineraries that felt like checklists, crew who had no particular interest in where you went.
We set out to offer something different — private charters with crew who actually enjoy the work, routes that can bend to what the day calls for, and an honest approach to what's included. No upsells at the gangway, no surprises at the end.
The operation is based at Mae Nam on Koh Samui's quieter northern coast, which suits our pace. The pier is less crowded than Nathon or Chaweng; the waters off Mae Nam are calm and well-suited to both day charters and longer passages towards Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Our mission
To give guests genuine time on the water — unhurried, well-supported, and handled by a crew that takes the seamanship seriously while keeping the atmosphere relaxed.
Our values
- Honest communication about conditions and costs
- Safety decisions made without commercial pressure
- Flexible itineraries that serve the guests, not a schedule
- Respect for the marine environment we operate in
- A crew that is present, not just present for the photos
The Crew
The people who make it work
Thanapol Kraipoeng
Captain & Founder
Thanapol grew up in Surat Thani and has been sailing the Gulf of Thailand for over eighteen years. He holds a Thai Marine Department commercial skipper licence and has navigated the Ang Thong and Koh Tao routes hundreds of times.
Napat Wongchai
Hospitality & Provisions
Napat manages onboard service and meals. She trained in Chiang Mai and has worked in marine hospitality for seven years. Her Thai lunches on the Ang Thong trip are something guests frequently mention when they write back.
Somsak Pinyasat
Deck Operations
Somsak handles deck work, anchoring, and snorkel equipment. He is a certified open-water dive instructor and speaks fluent English and basic German. He is the one who knows the best snorkel spots off the standard route.
Standards & Protocols
How we run our operation
Marine safety equipment
Life jackets, flares, VHF radio, and first-aid kits are checked before every departure. Equipment is replaced on schedule, not when it looks worn.
Vessel maintenance
Each yacht undergoes a full mechanical check every three months and a hull inspection annually. Maintenance is carried out by a licensed marine technician based in Samui.
Weather monitoring
We consult Thai Meteorological Department forecasts and sea-state data before each departure. Trips are rescheduled when conditions fall below the threshold we operate in.
Environmental care
We follow Department of National Parks guidelines in Ang Thong. No anchoring on reefs, no single-use plastics onboard, and guests are briefed on reef conduct before snorkeling.
Licensed and registered
wavecres operates under a Thai Marine Department commercial charter licence. All crew hold valid marine certifications appropriate to their roles.
Guest data privacy
Booking information is held securely and used only for charter coordination. We do not share personal details with third parties. See our privacy policy for full details.
Yacht charters from northern Koh Samui
Koh Samui's northern coast is quieter than the eastern beaches and better placed for departures towards the Ang Thong National Marine Park and the passage north to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Mae Nam sits at the midpoint of the north coast, making it a practical base for both short and extended voyages in the Gulf of Thailand.
wavecres operates private charters — meaning each departure is for one group only. This allows the crew to adapt the pace, the stops, and the onboard service to the specific group aboard, rather than managing a mixed group of strangers.
The Gulf of Thailand offers predictable sailing conditions during the northeast monsoon season (November through April), with calmer seas and consistent breezes. The southwest monsoon brings rougher conditions on the western side of the peninsula, though the Gulf coast of Koh Samui remains more sheltered during this period.
